continence assessment

Comprehensive continence nursing assessments in clients' own homes, ensuring privacy and comfort. Development of a continence care plan using individualised strategies. Urine testing to identify abnormalities and liaison with carer/care staff and/or GP if appropriate. Provision of continence education brochures and resources. Access to samples, schemes and suppliers. Review 2 weeks post assessment and again after 6 months. government subsidy applications and renewals

Applications and renewals made to the Queensland state scheme - Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) and to the federal Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) for eligible clients. routine catheter changes

Routine Indwelling urinary catheter and supra-pubic catheter changes by experienced nurse to maximise client comfort and management strategies. Support to clients and carers and advanced trouble-shooting.

educational workshops

Developed for paid carers, support workers and nurses, offering information and education in various clinical skills necessary to improve outomes for clients with incontinence:

  • An introduction to the continence service and assessment information delivered for community groups

  • Application of a uridome/penile sheath - a guide for care staff

  • Administration of a suppository or microlax enema - a guide for care staff

  • Urinary catheterisation - IDC/SPC education session and workshop for trained nurses
